Privacy Policy

toberead.in is a book registry and reading tracker. For data-protection purposes the operator of toberead.in is the data controller. You can reach us at hello@toberead.in.

• Account details from Google sign-in: your name, email address, Google account ID and profile picture. We never receive your Google password.
• Reading activity you create: shelves (want to read, currently reading, finished, did not finish), pages read and reading progress, ratings, reviews, lists, collections, event RSVPs and crew claims.
• Profile settings: display name, handle, bio, avatar, reading goals, privacy choices and your language filter preference.
• Submissions: book add requests and book edit suggestions you send for review.
• Usage data: searches made on the site, pages viewed, and clicks on buy buttons, recorded in aggregate to understand what readers look for. Standard server logs may include IP address and browser type for security and abuse prevention.

We do not collect payment details, because we do not sell anything.

• To sign you in and keep your session active.
• To save your shelves, progress and reviews and show them back to you across devices.
• To display public contributions such as reviews, public lists and reader cards.
• To moderate submissions and keep the catalogue accurate.
• To measure which books, languages and genres readers engage with, in aggregate.
• To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.

Our legal bases, where applicable, are performance of a contract (running your account), legitimate interests (site security, aggregate analytics, moderation) and consent (optional features you opt into).

We use Google Sign-In to authenticate readers. When you sign in, Google shares your basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) with us, subject to Google’s own privacy policy. We use it only to create and identify your account. You can revoke our access at any time from your Google account’s third-party access settings — doing so stops future sign-ins but does not by itself delete data already stored here.

Your display name, avatar, public reviews and ratings, public lists and your reader card are visible to other visitors. Reading progress, private lists and email address are not shown publicly. You can adjust visibility in your account settings.

We use cookies and browser local storage for essential functions only: keeping you signed in, remembering your selected languages, recent searches and interface preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Data is stored in a managed cloud database and file storage operated on our behalf, with access restricted to site administrators. Sign-in is handled through Google. Book cover images and uploaded assets are stored in our own hosted storage. We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

Account data is kept while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile and personal reading data; residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before being overwritten. Aggregate, non-identifying statistics may be retained.

You can ask for a copy of your data, correction of anything inaccurate, deletion of your account and data, or restriction of certain processing. Email hello@toberead.in and we will respond within a reasonable period. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

toberead.in is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
